Grants
Grants Whisky ran a competition that encouraged consumers to purchase a bottle of Grant's whisky and enter the “Try a different angle” competition. Each bottle of Grant’s had a sticker attached that contained an angle (ranging from 1 to 360), a unique code and instructions on how to enter. Consumers could enter by either smsing the unique code to a premium rated sms shortcode or by visiting the microsite. If the consumer’s unique number (containing the angle) matched the daily winning angle they won R1000.
In order for the consumer to enter the competition on the microsite, they were required to spin a virtual bottle of Grant’s before being able to see what the days winning angle was and to find out if they had won. If their entry details corresponded with that day’s winning angle they received an automated congratulatory message to let them know they were eligible for that day’s prize draw. If their entry did not match that day’s winning angle they received an automated message informing them that while they were not eligible for that day’s specific draw, they were eligible for the remaining draws and would be notified if they are winner.
If no entries matched the angle of the day then entries with the closest angles were entered into the random draw to determine a winner, ensuring 1 winner per day for 100 days were drawn and all prize monies were allocated.
The microsite was integrated with a custom built CMS that automated the winner picking every day and notified the client via email of the winners’ details so that they could arrange the prize delivery.
The microsite also let consumers tell their friends about the Try A Different Angle Competition in order to enter a prize draw to win an exclusive 4.5 litre bottle of Grants. For every friend they passed the promotion on to (by entering their friends’ email addresses) they received one entry into the lucky draw – i.e. if I tell 10 friends about the competition, I will have 10 entries into the lucky draw. Friends received a branded html mailer telling them that their friend recommended they check out the www.tryadifferentangle.co.za website and participate in the competition and also that there was a 4.5 litre bottle of Grants up for grabs if they tell their friends about the promo in turn. The mailer clicked through directly to the microsite.
Winners received an automated email/sms informing them that they had won, once the client chose the daily winners.
